Timothy is an abundant perennial grass native to most of Europe and was unintentionally introduced to North America by early settlers.   Horse owners commonly prefer timothy as hay for horses, as it is relatively high in fiber and contains less protein and calcium than other feed products.  Timothy is considered to be a good part of the standard mix of grass hay and provides quality nutrition for horses and other animals.
